Offshore LoRaWAN Networking: Transmission Performances Analysis Under Different Environmental Conditions

This article presents the architecture and performances of a long-range wide-area network (LoRaWAN) infrastructure used for data transmission from floating sensor node placed in middle sea to multigateway structure positioned on coast, whose purpose is monitoring offshore breeding cages within fish farming plant. In particular, installed seamark buoy it interfaced with ad hoc sensors measurement marine parameters. All sampled are conveyed ashore Gateways by successfully covering distance 8.33 km. The results concerning 70-day operating period, analyzing radio parameters Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) relation variations environmental parameters, such as temperature, relative humidity atmospheric pressure, well weather conditions. proposed system demonstrates usability LoRaWAN all those cases where collection structures required; while this focuses plants, may find application several contexts, navigational buoys oil plants.
